Superberries: How can they help people with heart disease

Superberries such as Acai, Goji, Noni, Maqui and Mangosteen can be used to treat heart disease, diabetes as well as to lower the risk of cancer, arthritis and to slow down the aging process.

These benefits are attributed to their rich phytonutrient content and strong antioxidant properties.

ACAI

Acai is probably the most well known superberry. We can thank this to Oprah and strong marketing campaing which introduced it to the world.

It is mostly found in dense rainforests of Brazil, besides other countries of South and Central America. It is bursting with vitamins, minerals as well as essential fatty acids. Acai is good source of proteins which is quite rare, when it comes to superberries as well as berries in general.

However, it is also very rich in fiber and broad range of powerful polyphenols and antioxidants which are responsible for its high ORAC value.

All these makes it one of the best superfoods for people dealing with heart disease. Actually, it was one of the first supplements I order, while declaring war to arrhythmia, high blood pressure and my impaired heart function.

GOJI

Besides Acai, Goji or Wolfberry is one of the best superberries and my favorite, due to its adaptogenic properties. While the color of Acai berry ranges from black to dark purple, Goji berry is known for its red color.

Colorful contrast between these two, indicates on different phytonutrient profile which is what we want.

Although it contains vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids as well as Acai, it is much better source of carotenoids and polysaccharides which are able to boost immune system.

Thanks to its adaptogenic properties, it is an excellent remedy for people suffering from heart disease, caused by hormonal imbalance and weak pituitary gland function.

NONI

Noni is used for strengthening the body, by normalizing cellular function, improving mood, boosting immune system and aiding in recovery process.

It contains phytochemicals such as cseronin, damnacanthal, procseronin and scopoletin as well as polysaccharides, flavonoids and numerous micro nutrients.

It may protect you against bacterias and viruses thereby preventing inflammation of the heart muscle, caused by infections. As well as Goji, Noni also has adaptogenic properties, due to which it may lower blood sugar levels and high blood pressure.

Some people use Noni, while trying to get rid of their addiction since it may ease the cravings.

MAQUI

Although flavonoids such as anthocyanins are mostly found in berries, Maqui superberry seems to be particularly rich in these powerful phytochemicals.

Actually, it has the highest ORAC value, among all the superberries, including Acai. This makes it very useful in neutralizing free radicals, protecting us against oxidative stress, slowing down the aging process and keeping cardiovascular system in top condition.

However, powerful Maqui berry may be, combining it with Acai, Goji and Noni may provide better results. On the other hand, anything in excess can be bad because of which you don't need to take them daily.

MANGOSTEEN

Mangosteen superberries are very rich in oligomeric-proanthocyanidins (OPCs) which are also found in Hawthorn berry which is the number one herb for the heart. However, Mangosteen berries contain rare kind of antioxidants known as xanthones.

Xanthones may be used to lower cholesterol, risk of heart attack and atherosclerosis, while improving heart function, especially when combined with OPCs as mother nature has intended.

Although there isn't enough research done, to confirm all these claims, I personally agree with them since my cholesterol was very low after taking super berries for few months.

On the other hand, I also ate healthy foods, exercised regulary and took fish oil and Hawthorn, besides Mangosteen, Acai, Goji, Noni and other berries.

TIP

Although combining these superberries can provide more benefits, you don't need to worry about adding all of them to your diet. You can eat Strawberries, Blueberries and Cranberries few times per week. They have similar phytonutrient profile.

I have taken Acai, Goji, Mangosteen and Noni, individually and in a form of berry blend, in supplement form. Only one which I haven't tried, yet, is Maqui.

However, while considering about trying it, I decided it was smarter to order another bottle of ORAC-Energy Greens which contains Acai and Goji superberries, along with adaptogens, vegetables, seaweed, mushrooms and other berries. After all, I can always try Maqui.
